<dc:description xsi:type="unistra:Resume" xml:langue="fre">The Book of Margery Kempe, the autobiography of an English visionary woman of the 15th century, deals with matters of spirituality and with the right to undertake pilgrimages. Indeed, by devoting herself to Christ, Margery Kempe undertook several pilgrimages as well across her native land as overseas. Yet, her right to travel needed to be negotiated with different figures of authority, which led to the need to negotiate her freedom of movement. This close reading will focus on the themes of freedom and travel and examine the role travel, space, and spirituality played in Margery Kempe’s freedom.</dc:description>
