<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">This research explores the analogies drawn between anatomical representations of the human body and the vegetal realm in the early modern period. By analysing anatomical engravings and their contexts of production, it investigates how artists and scholars conceptualised the human body in relation to nature, fostering an organic vision of life rooted in formal, functional, and symbolic correspondences between the human and vegetal domains.Far from being mere decorative motifs, these parallels embody an analogical thinking characteristic of the erudite culture of the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries. They convey a holistic conception of life, wherein the human body is perceived as an organism in seamless continuity with natural forces. The naturalistic landscape, frequently featured in anatomical plates, plays a pivotal role in this schema: it functions not simply as a backdrop but as an active participant in shaping a visual discourse on life, growth, and transformation. From an epistemological standpoint, this study probes the cognitive significance of scientific imagery and its function in generating and disseminating anatomical knowledge. In an era when empirical observation coexisted with symbolic traditions, images transcended mere illustration to become primary conduits of knowledge. Positioned at the crossroads of art history, history of science, and history of knowledge, this research elucidates the interplay between art and science, revealing how bodily representations, through their vegetal analogies, reshaped the conceptions of life and its modes of visualisation.</dcterms:abstract>
