<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="fr">Cette thèse a étudié l'application des nouvelles méthodes pour améliorer la performance des modèles hydrologiques sous différents aspects. L’objectif est de développer et d’adopter des nouvelles techniques pour répondre aux limites des méthodes existantes. Dans ce contexte, ce travail introduit un nouveau cadre d'assimilation des données dans les modèles hydrogéologiques en intégrant les données GRACE TWS et SMOS. Une technique appropriée d’assimilation permettant d’utiliser le potentiel de différentes données GRACE et SMOS est proposée. Ainsi ce travail propose une technique de upscaling des paramètres contrôlant les écoulements dans les rivières afin d’améliorer l’estimation des processus d’échange nappe-rivière dans les modèles hydrologiques. Cette technique de upscaling est implémentée dans un modèle couplant ParFlow pour la partie souterraine avec CLM pour les processus hydriques à la surface. Les différentes techniques proposées dans ce travail sont appliquées sur des cas d’études en Iran et en France. Les résultats montrent qu’en connaissant les limites des modèles et ainsi les contraintes, il est possible de proposer des nouvelles techniques qui peuvent surmonter les limites et améliorer la performance des modèles hydrogéologiques.</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract xml:lang="en">This thesis investigated the application of methods for improving land hydrological model performances from various perspectives. Special considerations were given to address the limitations in existing methods by proposing new techniques. These include introducing new assimilation framework, examining various data assimilation strategies for assimilating GRACE TWS and SMOS data, developing techniques to use the full potential of different data source including GRACE and SMOS observations for constraining system states, and proposing a new assimilation strategy for updating subsurface water storage states, i.e., the fundamental water balance equation, on their estimates. These also includes introducing new modeling strategies such as a scale‐consistent river parameterization for the coupled ParFlow-CLM hydrological model. This means, by knowing the limitations of the model, including structural constraints, it is possible to suggest methods that help to overcome the limitations of modeling in order to improve the performance of the model.</dcterms:abstract>
